This Grade 9 (TC2 / Ti-3Al-2.5V) near-alpha titanium alloy rod is a high-end engineered metal material, distinctly different from conventional commercially pure titanium GR1–GR4 and common alpha-beta titanium alloys mentioned before. Optimized with aluminum and vanadium alloying elements, it features a stable near-alpha metallographic structure, striking an ideal balance between high specific strength, excellent fatigue resistance, cold formability and medium-temperature performance. Beyond basic anti-corrosion properties, it is specially developed for high-pressure, cyclic load and lightweight design scenarios in aerospace, hydraulic systems and marine engineering. We supply both solid bars and tubular blanks, serving as core raw materials for high-precision tubes, high-strength fasteners and key structural parts in demanding industries.

Alloy Composition & Unique Near-alpha Structure

Different from fully pure titanium and dual-phase alpha-beta titanium alloys, Grade 9 adopts Ti-3Al-2.5V formula and near-alpha phase structure. The added aluminum improves tensile strength and high-temperature stability, while vanadium enhances toughness and processability without triggering obvious phase transformation. This unique structure brings three core strengths that differentiate it from other titanium grades:

First, outstanding cold workability. Compared with high-strength beta titanium alloys, it can undergo bending, flaring, rolling and cold drawing smoothly, which is the key reason why it is widely made into seamless hydraulic tubes. It will not crack or lose strength during tube forming, and the finished pipe maintains uniform wall thickness and roundness.

Second, superior anti-fatigue and vibration resistance. Under long-term cyclic pressure, reciprocating motion and mechanical vibration, the material resists fatigue crack generation and expansion. It performs reliably for years in hydraulic pipelines and moving parts that work around the clock.

Third, stable medium-temperature performance. It retains stable mechanical properties under continuous service at 300–350°C, no softening or creep deformation occurs, outperforming commercially pure titanium in elevated temperature working conditions. Meanwhile, it inherits titanium’s inherent advantages: ultra-low density, excellent seawater and chemical corrosion resistance, and complete non-magnetism.

Performance Advantages & Comparative Edges

Compared with GR1–GR4 pure titanium: Grade 9 has much higher tensile strength and yield strength, able to bear higher pressure and load, while retaining better forming performance than high-strength GR4. It solves the point that pure titanium is limited in high-pressure and heavy-load scenarios.

Compared with traditional alpha-beta titanium alloys: Its near-alpha structure has lower deformation resistance and better cold forming capability, more suitable for manufacturing thin-wall tubes and precision fasteners. The structure is more stable after long-term service, with lower risk of performance attenuation.

Compared with stainless steel and ordinary alloy steel: It features far lower density, greatly reducing the overall weight of aerospace and marine equipment. Its corrosion resistance against salt mist, seawater and hydraulic oil is also far superior, eliminating frequent anti-rust maintenance. When used for high-pressure pipelines, it can withstand higher working pressure with thinner wall thickness, optimizing structural design.

Production Process & Dimensional Precision Control

All products are manufactured strictly in accordance with ASTM B348 and UNS R56320 specifications. We adopt multi-pass hot forging combined with precision cold rolling, matched with dedicated near-alpha titanium heat treatment process to stabilize the internal crystal phase and fully eliminate residual stress.

For solid bars: The grain distribution is uniform, surface finish is fine, straightness and roundness are strictly controlled. No distortion occurs during turning, threading and other deep processing, ensuring high precision of finished fasteners and shaft parts.

For tubular blanks: We use special piercing and rolling technology. The inner and outer walls are smooth without scratches, pits or oxide inclusions. The wall thickness tolerance is controlled within a narrow range, fully meeting the manufacturing requirements of aerospace hydraulic tubes that demand high air tightness and pressure resistance. Each batch undergoes non-destructive testing to rule out internal micro-defects.

Processing & Application Adaptability

Grade 9 titanium alloy has excellent comprehensive process performance tailored for high-end manufacturing. It supports conventional machining such as turning, drilling and threading; the thread surface is smooth with high matching precision, ideal for making high-strength marine and aerospace fasteners.

Its excellent weldability ensures welded joints maintain equivalent strength and fatigue resistance as the base material, suitable for pipeline assembly and structural welding. The material also adapts to various surface treatments like anodizing, which can further improve surface hardness and wear resistance for parts with special requirements.
