Vacuum Coated Metal Sheet Line Upgraded: PVD Finishes Bring Longer-Lasting Color to Global Projects
2026/10/20
Colored metal surfaces that keep their appearance after years of outdoor exposure remain one of the toughest demands in architectural metalwork. Our upgraded vacuum coating line now supplies vacuum coated metal sheet with tighter color consistency and faster lead times for distributors, fabricators and project contractors worldwide. The color is deposited into the metal itself rather than painted on top, so it cannot peel, chalk or fade under UV light.
Vacuum coating, also called PVD (physical vapor deposition), runs inside a high-vacuum chamber. Titanium, chromium or zirconium targets are vaporized and bonded onto a cleaned stainless steel substrate at controlled temperature and pressure, forming a film of roughly 0.1 to 0.3 micron that joins the surface at molecular level.
- Substrate: 304 / 316L stainless steel, plus aluminum and galvanized sheet on request
- Preparation: grinding, brushing, mirror polishing or etching to set the base finish
- Cleaning: ultrasonic degreasing and drying before chamber entry
- Deposition: PVD coating with in-line thickness monitoring
- Finishing: protective PE/PVC film, then color and adhesion testing
| Item | Standard Range |
|---|---|
| Base material | 304 / 316L stainless steel, aluminum, galvanized sheet |
| Sheet thickness | 0.3 mm – 3.0 mm |
| Standard width | 1000 / 1219 / 1500 mm |
| Coating thickness | 0.1 – 0.3 micron |
| Surface finishes | Mirror (8K), hairline, No.4 brushed, vibration, etched, embossed |
| Colors | Gold, rose gold, champagne, black, bronze, blue, copper, silver, custom shades |
| Surface hardness | Up to 3x that of uncoated stainless steel |
| Salt spray | 500 hours and above for standard grades |
- Color stability: the PVD film resists UV degradation, so south-facing facades do not chalk
- Wear resistance: withstands daily cleaning, abrasion and fingerprint marking
- Corrosion protection: a ceramic-like barrier on top of the stainless substrate
- Environmental profile: dry vacuum process, no plating baths or solvent paint waste
- Design freedom: mirror, brushed and etched bases in more than twenty standard colors
Project experience shows the strongest uptake in architectural cladding and column wraps, elevator cabins and door frames, interior wall and ceiling panels, and appliance or furniture trims. The material is frequently specified for hotel lobbies, retail storefronts, airports and metro stations where color must stay consistent between batches delivered months apart.

Yes. Vacuum coating is the deposition of metal vapor onto a sheet surface inside a vacuum chamber; PVD (physical vapor deposition) is the technical name for that process. Both terms describe the same titanium-based film, and neither involves paint or electroplating.
Because the film bonds at molecular level rather than sitting on top as a coating, it does not peel or flake. Standard grades hold color and gloss through 500 hours of salt spray testing and years of UV exposure, which is why the material is used on exterior facades.
304 for general architectural use and 316L where chlorides or coastal air are involved. Thickness runs from 0.3 mm to 3.0 mm, in widths of 1000, 1219 and 1500 mm; aluminum and galvanized substrates are also available.
Yes. Laser cutting and bending are routine. Keep the protective film in place during fabrication, use recommended bend radii, and avoid excessive heat at weld zones to prevent edge discoloration.
Gold, rose gold, champagne, black, bronze, copper, blue and silver are standard, with custom shades matched to a physical sample. Bases include mirror 8K, hairline, No.4 brushed, vibration, etched and embossed.
Standard colors ship in 15 to 25 days. Export packing uses interleaved film, moisture-barrier wrap and fumigation-free plywood crates for sea freight.
Our technical team supports fabricators with laser cutting parameters, bending radii and welding precautions. Sample books and trial lots let buyers verify color, gloss and durability against project requirements before volume ordering.
