Descripción de producto
316 Stainless Steel Hex Bar Solid Hex Bar S3–S50 Bright Stainless Steel Rod For Offshore Industry
Premium AISI 316 Hex Bars — 2–3% Molybdenum for Superior Chloride Corrosion Resistance — Bright Finish — ASTM A276/A479, EN 10088, JIS G4303 Compliant
Product Overview

Our 316 Stainless Steel Hex Bar is manufactured from premium AISI 316 stainless steel using precision hot-rolled or cold-drawn production processes, offering outstanding corrosion resistance, excellent mechanical strength, and exceptional dimensional accuracy. Available in S3–S50 sizes with a bright surface finish, these solid hexagonal bars are specifically designed for demanding offshore and marine environments where resistance to chloride-induced corrosion is essential.

Containing 2–3% molybdenum (Mo), 316 stainless steel provides significantly better resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion than 304 stainless steel, making it an ideal material for offshore platforms, marine engineering, desalination equipment, chemical processing, and shipbuilding. The bright finish also enhances appearance while reducing surface contamination and simplifying maintenance.

Corrosion Resistance

316 stainless steel is engineered for highly corrosive environments. The addition of molybdenum significantly improves resistance to chloride attack, making it suitable for long-term exposure to seawater splashes, marine atmospheres, and aggressive industrial chemicals.

Key corrosion resistance benefits include:

  • Excellent resistance to pitting corrosion
  • Superior crevice corrosion resistance
  • Outstanding performance in chloride environments
  • High resistance to seawater and salt spray
  • Excellent oxidation resistance at elevated temperatures
  • Good resistance to acids, alkalis, and chemical media
  • Long service life with reduced maintenance costs
Advantages Compared with Other Stainless Steel Grades
Grade Advantages Limitations
316 Excellent seawater and chloride corrosion resistance, ideal for offshore applications Higher cost than 304
304 Cost-effective and versatile Lower resistance to chloride corrosion
316L Lower carbon content, excellent weldability Slightly lower strength than 316
201 Economical Poor corrosion resistance in marine environments
303 Excellent machinability Reduced corrosion resistance due to sulfur addition

Frequently Asked Questions
1. What sizes of 316 stainless steel hex bars do you supply?
We offer standard sizes from S3 to S50 across flats, with custom sizes and cut lengths available upon request.
2. Why is 316 stainless steel preferred for offshore applications?
The addition of 2–3% molybdenum significantly improves resistance to pitting, crevice corrosion, and chloride attack, making 316 ideal for marine and offshore environments.
3. What surface finishes are available?
We supply bright, polished, and pickled finishes. Bright-finished hex bars are particularly suitable for precision machining and decorative applications.
4. Can you provide custom machining services?
Yes. We offer cutting, CNC machining, chamfering, drilling, threading, and other value-added processing services according to customer drawings.
5. Which standards do your products comply with?
Our products are manufactured in accordance with ASTM A276, ASTM A479, EN 10088, and JIS G4303 standards.
6. Do you provide Material Test Certificates?
Yes. Every shipment can be supplied with EN10204 3.1 Material Test Certificates (MTC), including chemical composition and mechanical property reports.
7. What is the difference between 316 and 316L stainless steel?
316L has a lower carbon content, offering improved weldability and better resistance to intergranular corrosion after welding. Standard 316 generally provides slightly higher mechanical strength.
8. What industries commonly use 316 stainless steel hex bars?
These bars are widely used in offshore engineering, marine equipment, shipbuilding, chemical processing, desalination plants, food processing, pharmaceutical manufacturing, and precision mechanical engineering.
