Products Description

Our 430 brushed stainless steel sheet is a ferritic stainless steel sheet supplied in 0.3–2.0mm thicknesses and a standard 1000×2000mm size. Hairline and No.4 brushed finishes are available for appliance panels, kitchen equipment, elevator interiors, furniture, architectural panels and other indoor applications.

Grade 430 offers good corrosion resistance, magnetic properties, formability and lower material cost than many nickel-bearing stainless steel grades. Custom thicknesses, sizes and cutting services are available for bulk orders.

The Brushed Finish Options: Hairline, No.4, and BA

We supply 430 sheets with three distinct surface finish options, each suited to different end-use requirements and aesthetic preferences. Understanding the differences ensures the correct finish is specified for the application.

Hairline (HL / long-grain brushed):

Made by continuous belt brushing (150–240 grit) along the full sheet length. It creates even, continuous linear grain and soft satin low-reflection surface.

430 hairline stainless sheets are widely used for interior decoration: elevator cladding, column covers, display fixtures and furniture. The linear grain hides fingerprints and minor scratches. Consistent grain direction guarantees seamless visual effect on joint panels.

No.4 finish:

Similar to hairline, produced with coarser 120–180 grit, delivering more distinct grain and slightly higher reflectivity.

Commonly used for commercial interiors, restaurant & food service equipment. It masks fingerprints and scuffs, brighter under bright light. Easy on-site repair for fabricators, lowers rework risk.

BA (Bright Annealed):

Not a brushed finish. Bright annealed in oxygen-free furnace, no post pickling. Features high reflectivity, excellent flatness and bright metallic surface.

430 BA sheets apply to light reflectors, decorative trims and appliance panels. No micro polishing lines or embedded abrasives, less corrosion risk. Indoor near-mirror look with lower cost than polished 304.

Why Choose 430 Instead of 304?

For indoor architectural, decorative and appliance applications, 430 brushed stainless steel sheet can provide a more economical alternative to 304 without sacrificing the clean appearance of a brushed stainless surface. Its magnetic properties can also be advantageous for appliance panels and applications where magnetic response is required.

Corrosion Resistance: Understanding the Limits

430 stainless steel provides good corrosion resistance for indoor and mildly corrosive environments. It is commonly used for appliances, kitchen equipment, interior panels and decorative applications. For coastal, marine or chloride-rich environments, 304 or 316L stainless steel is generally a more suitable choice.

Fabrication Characteristics

Fabricators who work primarily with 304 will find 430 a welcome material to process. Its lower strength and work-hardening rate translate to longer tool life, lower press forces, and faster cycle times. Shearing, punching, and blanking operations proceed with noticeably less edge burr formation, reducing deburring labor. Bending requires less tonnage, and the spring-back behavior is more predictable than with 304—a meaningful advantage when setting up press brake programs for repeat production runs.

The magnetic response of 430 can be either an advantage or a challenge depending on the process. In welding, arc blow can occur with DC welding currents due to the material's ferromagnetism; this is managed by using AC current or by demagnetizing the workpiece before welding. For most sheet metal fabrication, however, welding of 430 is less common than mechanical fastening, adhesive bonding, or clinching, so arc blow is rarely encountered in practice.

When welding is required, 430-compatible filler metals must be used. The heat-affected zone will experience grain growth that embrittles the area—a characteristic of ferritic stainless steels that does not occur with austenitic grades. Post-weld annealing can restore ductility, but for most decorative applications, the simplest approach is to design assemblies that avoid the need for welding altogether, using folded corners, mechanical fasteners, or structural adhesives to join panels.

Packaging & Supply

Each 430 brushed sheet ships with a protective PVC film on the finished face. Sheets are interleaved with protective paper, stacked on export-grade pallets, and weatherproof-wrapped for transit. Grain direction is marked on the packaging and on the protective film of each individual sheet, enabling fabricators to maintain directional consistency across all panels in a given installation. Mill test certification to EN 10204 3.1 is provided with every shipment, documenting chemical composition and mechanical properties traceable to the originating heat.
